UK Website Issues Report

A research resource for understanding technical website observations across the Client Finch dataset. The reporting scope is ready; verified aggregate findings will be published when the source data has been reviewed.

Unique websites, not repeated findingsExplicit sample and denominatorsAnonymous aggregate reporting

The first report is in preparation.

A reviewed aggregate dataset is not available for publication yet. Sample sizes, issue percentages, industry rankings and charts will appear only after the source records and denominators have been verified.

Executive summary

No research statistics are published in this edition. The sections below define what will be counted, how the sample will be selected and which conclusions the evidence can support. The daily analysis capacity is not used as a substitute for a verified sample size.

The report concerns observations in a selected company-linked website dataset. It is not a probability survey of every UK business website, a ranking of business quality or a measure of commercial demand.

02 / RESEARCH

Research scope and methodology

The reporting unit is one unique website domain with a current accepted company match and a completed, paired technical-check record. A website is counted once per reported signal, even if that signal appears on several sampled pages. The latest qualifying completed record is selected for each domain within the stated window.

Awaiting, failed, retrying, blocked or incomplete analyses are excluded from the statistical cohort. Records without a usable HTML page sample, records for a different current website and unpaired check timestamps must also be excluded. Completed results with no published service opportunity remain eligible when their raw check evidence is complete.

The underlying current-record stores are updated over time. They are not a complete historical archive of every scan. A report window describes the selected records’ check dates; it does not establish a longitudinal trend.

Publication uses a reviewed aggregate snapshot prepared from existing analysis records. Public page views do not query the company database, trigger new scans or run expensive live aggregations. Read the actual check scope.

Website analysis overview

Sample size, sampled-page count and the analysis date range are awaiting validation. The available platform-wide company counters do not provide the issue-level assessment denominators needed for this report.

  • Accepted website matching is a separate stage from analysis completion.
  • A completed check can record observations without producing a published service opportunity.
  • A website with no recorded finding is different from a website that was not checked successfully.

Most common technical SEO issues

The following supported signals define the report’s scope. Their relative frequency is not yet established, so no “most common” ranking is asserted.

Missing meta descriptions

A sampled HTML page has no non-empty description value.

Google may generate a different snippet; this does not establish a ranking loss.

Duplicate page titles

At least two sampled pages share the same non-empty title.

This is a sampled-page observation, not a full-domain duplicate-title count.

Broken sampled internal links

A checked internal destination returns a supported error response.

The sample does not represent every internal link, and transient failures need a recheck.

Missing or empty image alt text

A sampled page triggers the existing check for multiple images with absent or empty alt text.

Empty alternatives can be appropriate for decorative images. This is not an accessibility compliance verdict or a count of every affected image.

Slow homepage HTML responses

The checked homepage request takes more than three seconds to return its HTML.

This is not browser load time, LCP, INP, CLS or field Core Web Vitals.

Missing viewport declarations

The checked homepage HTML has no mobile viewport meta element.

This does not measure responsive layout or test a mobile browser.

Missing page titles

A sampled HTML page has no title value.

The observation concerns fetched HTML; rendered metadata may differ.

Recorded noindex directives

A sampled response or HTML declaration contains noindex.

Noindex can be intentional; its presence alone is not proof of a fault.

Conflicting canonical declarations

A sampled page declares more than one distinct canonical URL.

This does not establish which URL a search engine selects.

Website performance findings

The existing timing observation records a homepage request taking more than three seconds to return its HTML. It does not measure image transfer weight, browser rendering, mobile interaction or field Core Web Vitals.

No verified response-time frequency is available for publication. A missing figure means unavailable data, not zero slow websites.

The performance investigation example separates an initial response observation from further agency lab research.

Industry comparisons

No industry comparison is published yet. A comparison requires sufficient reviewed records with usable classification data and a clear denominator for each cohort.

Any displayed industry grouping uses one available primary SIC section per website. SIC codes are registration classifications, not verified descriptions of current trading. Groups below ten websites and unclassified records are not presented as industry comparisons; displayed groups may not cover the whole sample.

Technical issue distribution

No distribution chart is displayed until its source counts and assessment coverage are verified. Opportunity counts, daily processing capacity and example-page values are not substituted for research observations.

Each percentage uses the number of unique websites assessed for that signal. One website can appear in several signal categories, so category percentages can sum to more than 100%. Different coverage between checks must be considered before comparing their percentages.

Key findings for UK agencies

No aggregate findings or trends are asserted before data review. The practical research principles below do not depend on an unpublished statistic.

  1. Use a page-level observation to define a small investigation, rather than inferring a retainer, a budget or buying intent.
  2. Check current behaviour before recommending repairs. Intentional directives and temporary access conditions need context.
  3. Separate technical evidence from a possible commercial implication. A broken quote link does not quantify lost revenue.
  4. Keep your service scope, uncertainty and next question alongside the prospect.

Apply these principles with the UK SEO client prospecting guide and the website opportunity examples.

Research limitations

  • The eligible dataset selects legally Active company records with accepted website matches, rather than every UK business or sole trader.
  • Selected HTML pages and links are a bounded sample; the checks do not cover the whole website or execute its JavaScript.
  • Unavailable and excluded checks can introduce selection bias. Their absence is not evidence of a problem-free site.
  • Signal definitions, page coverage, website changes and the sample window affect comparisons between report editions.
  • No traffic, rankings, conversions, customer acquisition or revenue effect is measured by these counts.
  • No company names, domains, addresses or prospect contact information are included in the public report.
